Airbourne Colours second paint hangar at Teesside Airport

Construction commences on second hangar at Teesside Airport
Construction is powering ahead on a second paint hangar for Airbourne Colours at Teesside International Airport, marking another significant milestone for the fast-growing aircraft painting specialist.
Following the successful launch of its £6.5 million state-of-the-art facility in October 2024, Airbourne Colours is expanding once again to meet surging demand. With the company’s order book full for the next two years, work is underway on a second dedicated hangar – Hangar 9 – located on the airport’s north side.
The new facility will be capable of accommodating narrow-body aircraft, including the Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 MAX 10. With the steel frame now erected, the project remains firmly on track for operations to begin by November 2025.
Steven Darbyshire, Founder and Chief Executive of Airbourne Colours, said:
“We need a second hangar to fulfil the demand we’ve had. There’s a backlog in aircraft painting facilities across Europe, so we’re building them here and expanding at Teesside Airport. It’s a real source of pride to return to my roots, bring employment back to where I grew up, and help establish Teesside as a hub for specialist aviation services.”
Earlier this year, Airbourne Colours also launched its Aircraft Painting Trainee Programme in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education, creating new opportunities for young talent to enter the industry.
